My work deals with the use of traditional handy woman’s techniques juxtaposed with modern day artistic technology and themes. By incorporating old found objects and modern materials, a play on historical stereotypes are examined. In the past women were never truly seen as fine artists and their creative outlets were always perceived as secondary to those of their male counterparts. Through my art I am examining the integrity of such techniques and utilizing them to convey their value and importance in current artist endeavors. My work embodies shrine like imagery with the intent to give homage to the past. By developing an intimate shrine / stage it draws the viewer in, with the intent to signify the impact and importance of the skills and techniques used. Images of the past and present have been altered to bring further significance to the themes represented.
